Welcome to 2008
Well it’s finally here, 2008. I heard a guy talking on the radio this morning echoing my sentiments on 2007, it’s finally over. He said, “I stayed up to midnight Monday night just to make sure it was over.” I’m excited about a new year, 2007 was filled with a lot of challenges, lost several really good friends, though I know someday I will see them again, it still hurts to say good bye. It seemed like the last 2.5 months all we did was funerals.
Anyway I welcome 2008, there are many new opportunities before us, and most important for me, is the only New Year Resolution I made was to “Read thru the Bible” this year. It’s been a while since i just read thru the Bible, I’ve studied it, read different books, but most of my study time has been for a class, a small group study, or a sermon, but this year I just want to commit a portion of each day to simply read the word from Genesis to Revelation. I’ve offered a challenge to people in our congregation to read it with me and so far 10 people accepted that challenge. This has been helpful to me as well, because now I have others keeping me accountable, I promised them to have in their email box every morning Mon – Friday the daily reading schedule and on occasion thoughts that I have gleaned from that days text. Well I’m looking forward to this journey through the word – I hope you as well will choose to spend more time in God’s word this year.

I promise to pray for you once a week as you embark on this quest through the scripture. I appreciate your honesty about being a preacher and struggling with the most simple of Spiritual Disciplines. God Bless You Brother!!
